An Oregon teen posted to his Facebook account that he was driving drunk and hit a car and then was visited and arrested by the police.
Two Facebook friends of 18-year-old Jacob Cox-Brown reported the post to police, according to the Washington Post. The post read:
“Drivin drunk ... classsic ;) but to whoever’s vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P”
The police report said that police went to Cox-Brown's house and were able to match a vehicle there to one that had hit two others in early in the morning. Cox-Brown was arrested and booked into Clatsop county jail for "two counts of failing to perform the duties of a driver."
The article points out that Facebook posts of wrongdoing can lead police to your door, but they can also help. In 2009, a Facebook post got a Brooklyn teen accused of robbery released from jail when he was seen posting at his father's place at the time of the robbery. Although it was taken into consideration with other witness accounts, the posting seemed to serve as his alibi.
As we have frequently said before, don't post anything you don't want your mom or the police to see --and certainly don't update Facebook, tweet or text while driving.
