Amazon's prime members may have gotten a sneak peak at the virtual store's streaming future.
Reports surfaced last week that Amazon wanted to introduce a streaming video service to rival Netflix.
Over the weekend some Amazon Prime members reported seeing an ad on Amazon's site that reportedly teased streaming content from PBS and BBC America, according to Engadget. The ad has since been removed.
“Your Amazon Prime membership now includes unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows at no additional cost,” the screen shot on Engadget's site said.
Amazon Prime membership costs $79 a year and promises free shipping for purchases. The company's CEO has teased that free streaming could be added to the service.
Netflix charges a $96 annual subscription for streaming service, which means the Los Gatos-based company could have some competition if the tease turns out to be a glimpse into the future.
