The DUI stats are out from the holiday weekend.
The CHP says it saw an increase in drunk driving arrests this year over last year.
The numbers are still provisional and have only been counted through early Sunday morning.
Here in the Bay Area 249 people were arrested for driving drunk compared to 207 arrests last year.
Statewide 1,419 people were arrested for DUI compared to 1,314 arrests for the same time span last year.
The number of checkpoints and officers on patrol were the basically the same so it looks like the number of people intoxicated behind the wheel might in deed have been up this year.
As of Sunday, there were no DUI fatalities on Bay Area roadways this year. Last year one person died as a result of a DUI crash.
The CHP will announce its final numbers on Monday.
