Doctors said Friday that Bryan Stow's condition has stabilized to the point that he can be transferred to a San Francisco area medical facility as early as Monday.
Stow has remained in a coma at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center since he was attacked by two men after a baseball game on opening day at Dodger Stadium.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, LAC-USC officials said, "The medical team for Mr. Bryan Stow has deemed Mr. Stow's condition stable to be able to be transferred to San Francisco General and Trauma Center in San Francisco as early as Monday morning. Please note that his overall condition remains critical and he continues to be in a coma."
A news conference is being planned for Sunday from the medical center.
Family members said earlier this week that they were making plans to move Stow back to the Bay area.
Moving him nearer to his home in Northern California will make things easier for his family, his mother said in an interview earlier this week. The family members said they will miss the people who have cared for Bryan since the attack.
"That's going to be one of the hardest things to do -- to say goodbye to them," said Ann Stow, Bryan Stow's mother. "We have so many friends here that we would not have met had it not been for this journey we're on. They are life-long friends."
Police continue the search for Stow's attackers. Earlier this week, billboards with sketches of the attackers went up in the Los Angeles area.
