A Maserati and a Nissan reportedly crashed into each other Thursday with the Nissan ending up in the San Francisco Bay.
Witnesses said the two cars were racing prior to the crash near Candlestick Park, but according to the San Francisco California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Nissan claims it was not a racing crash.
The driver claims he was trying to merge right when he saw a car coming up fast, CHP said. He then jerked his wheel the other way, sending his car into the bay. [[301923731, C]]
The driver of the Nissan — which was completely submerged in water — was able to climb out of the bay and the car was eventually rescued. He suffered minor injuries to his head and hand, CHP said.
The Maserati driver claims he just pulled over to help, CHP officers said. The CHP is interviewing witnesses to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.
