It was an onerous task, but someone had to do it.
With "Best Pizza" lists usually mentioning the Top 10, 15 or 25 best pies, food critics at the Daily Meal took the time to compile an exhaustive tome of tasty pizza pies, offering the country their take on the "101 Best Pizzas in America."
Bay Area food connoisseurs take heart: Seven of those 101 are in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. Though, curiously, the mouth-watering Chicago-style Zachary's Pizza in Oakland, Berkeley, Pleasant Hill and San Ramon somehow did not make the list. And neither did San Francisco's Gialina Pizzeria for reasons not explained.
Still, the folks at the Daily Meal said this year's list of pizzas it "considered was bigger, badder, and better than ever. It’s difficult to believe anybody has ever done as comprehensive or thorough a list to be voted on by experts before."
