Doug McConnell has hosted and produced many series, specials and news reports on commercial and public television since moving back to the Bay Area in 1983. Among his series was the legendary, "Bay Area Backroads," the longest-running television series in Bay Area broadcast history.
Doug and his teams have won numerous Emmys and other national and regional broadcast awards, including the prestigious Harold Gilliam award for environmental reporting in Northern California.
Doug has been honored many times for his commitments to the community. He has the rare distinction of being an honorary ranger for both our National Park and State Park systems. He’s been selected as Volunteer of the Year by the San Francisco Bay Trail Project and Humanitarian of the Year by the Marin Humane Society.
Doug has a passion for nature, history and adventure. As a fourth-generation Californian, Doug has explored his home state extensively both personally and professionally all his life and is thrilled to be returning to television to share his interests, knowledge and discoveries and invite viewers to join him for extraordinary adventures along the open road.
