Police are investigating a bold early Tuesday morning burglary at a Walnut Creek Macy's in which someone broke windows to get into the department store, then stole jewelry from display cases, a police sergeant said.
The break-in occurred at about 3:15 a.m. at the Macy's at 1320 Broadway Plaza, police Sgt. Mike McLaughlin said.
An alarm at the department store was activated, but police weren't notified that the alarm had been tripped until 4:28 a.m., McLaughlin said. He said it is still unclear why there was a delay.
Officers responded to the store and found windows smashed, jewelry stolen and a sledgehammer left behind, he said.
Investigators are looking into whether there is surveillance video footage of the crime, McLaughlin said. No arrests have been made in the case.
