All northbound lanes heading onto the Golden Gate Bridge were shut down Thursday evening when a car caught fire in the middle of the span.
Flames and smoke were seen billowing from the car that caught fire shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and also closed all but one southbound lane.
Structural engineers also responded to the scene to make sure nothing was compromised due to the fire.
Officers began reopening lanes at about a 6 p.m.
