Oakland firefighters and residents are on high alert following five fires reported in the city on Tuesday.
Investigators said the fires, all in the Oakland Hills area, are suspicious. Fire crews spent Wednesday patrolling the area and making sure residents are taking the needed steps to protect themselves.
"We just want to make sure people are vigilant about keeping properties clear and making sure if they see anything out of the ordinary to call it in," said Capt. Marshall McKee, Oakland Fire Department.
Oakland Hills-resident Mark Bone said given the area's fire history, he and his neighbors take fire prevention very seriously. But knowing there is a potential arsonist on the loose is scary, he said.
"If somebody deliberately starts a fire, there's not a whole lot you can do," Bone said.
