International travelers can now theoretically breeze through lines at San Jose International Airport through two new "global entry kiosks" if they pass some rigorous background checks.
The kiosks were unveiled Friday and now join about 50 others at airports across the country, including at San Francisco International Airport.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection provides the program, which is intended to expedite clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the U.S. and costs $100.
"Global Entry" is open to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, Dutch and South Korean citizens, and Mexican nationals. Canadian citizens and residents may enjoy Global Entry benefits through membership in the NEXUS program.
Here are the steps to follow once at the airport:
1) Present a machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card;
2) Place fingertips on the scanner for fingerprint verification, and make a customs declaration; and
3) Wait for the kiosk to issue a transaction receipt and then direct the traveler to baggage claim and the exit.
