A story that made the round of the internet and here on NBC Bay Area appears to be a hoax.
We were among those who got hoodwinked into believing there was a study out of Canada that showed IE users came out on the bottom of a test of people who use various browsers.
We had a link to the study, and other publications sourcing it, (PDF of fake study here) but alas it was wrong.
The hoax was quite elaborate sourcing multiple studies,FAQs, etc.
Wired Magazine breaks down the tell-tale signs we all should have caught.
We apologize for the error.
