LIVE BLOG: Oakland Celebrates Golden State Warriors at Parade

The city of Oakland opened its arms to an estimated million revelers on Friday, showering the beloved Golden State Warriors with love and adoration after the basketball team won the NBA championship.

Fans began lining up along the parade route as early as 5 a.m., if not earlier, and public transportation swelled to capacity to carry the thousands of fans to the Lake Merritt area stretching the the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, where the route ends.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told NBC Bay Area he’s ready to take a vacation as soon as the celebratory festivities wind down.

About 1 million people attended the parade and rally, police said. The event went relatively smoothly, although three people were shot a few blocks from the site of the rally. Police could not confirm whether the shooting had anything to do with the Warriors rally.

The crowds went wild for the team favorites, inlcuding the Curry family, who have earned the title of being the Bay Area's "first family."  Warriors guard Steph Curry, his pregnant wife and adorable toddler, Riley, rolled through on a double decker bus, carrying the championship trophy.

But Curry would be the first to admit that the team didn't beat the Cleveland Cavaliers all alone. His teammates, including Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andre Igoudala, and others received shouts and whoops of congratulations, too.

The Warriors had not won a championship since 1975.
