Mark Zuckerberg Invites Teen Clockmaker Ahmed Mohamed to Facebook

Ahmed Mohamed, the 14-year-old North Texas student who was questioned and detained after teachers at his Irving high school thought his homemade clock resembled a bomb, has been invited to meet with leaders of the tech industry, including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

“Having the skill and ambition to build something cool should lead to applause, not arrest,” Zuckerberg posted on his own Facebook page, adding that he would “love to” meet the young teen.

Zuckerberg joins the ranks of President Obama, Hillary Clinton, White House Chief Technology Officer Megan Smith and Twitter co-founder and interim CEO Jack Dorsey, all of whom tweeted their support for Mohamed Wednesday morning.

Google also chimed in, inviting Mohamed to its annual science fair in Mountain View this weekend.

The hashtag #IStandWithAhmed has been trending since news of Mohamed’s arrest reached the Twittersphere.

Meanwhile, Mohamed seems to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. On his recently created Twitter page, he tweeted “Thank you for your support! I really didn't think people would care about a muslim boy. #Thankyouforstandingwithme.”
