Meg Whitman has only been on the job about a week but the new Hewlett Packard CEO already has to make a weighty decision.
The former Republican gubernatorial candidate said she will decide the fate of the company's PC division by the end of October.
"We're going to try our hardest," Whitman said about coming to a final conclusion, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Whitman was announced as Léo Apotheker replacement at HP last week and she immediately inherited a company in need of direction.
Apotheker tenure was only 11 months on the job partly because he struggle to transition HP away from its PC business and transition it towards its commercial tech business, like he said he wanted to do.
One thing Whitman said she was sure of that the era of big purchases for HP would be over for now.
