Pelosi Questions Obama Marijuana Policy

Nancy Pelosi speaks out in support of medical marijuana.

If President Barack Obama won't listen to the people, perhaps he'll heed Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi reacted to medical cannabis users' petitions this week when she issued a statement blasting the federal Justice Department's crackdown on state-legal medical marijuana, according to SF Weekly.

Obama defended the Justice Department's crackdown in an interview in Rolling Stone. Obama insisted that he can't tell the Justice Department not to enforce laws on the books.

In response, Pelosi issued a statement this week of her own, in which she voices her "strong concerns" about the federal crackdown, which has seen five San Francisco medical marijuana dispensaries close their doors.

“I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medicinal marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California, and undermine a policy that has been in place under which the federal government did not pursue individuals whose actions complied with state laws providing for medicinal marijuana," Pelosi said.
