While the Olympics kicked off Thursday in Sochi, Russia, figure skater Polina Edmunds trained on the ice in Germany, all the while remembering her San Jose roots.
The 15-year-old Archbishop Mitty High School sophomore tweeted out a photo of herself training in Munich. In the photo, she’s wearing a blue Dance Theatre International tank top, and gives a nod to her San Jose dance studio, where she honed her ballet skills.

Her father, John Edmunds of Santa Clara, told NBC Bay Area that Polina will travel the 1,800 miles to Sochi before her competition later this month. She is traveling with her mother, Nina Edmunds – a native of Russia, her coach, David Glynn, and a few others in a small entourage.

As a nod back to Polina, Dance Theatre International changed its Facebook cover photo to a photo of the slight blond, her arms spread, her leg up, wearing a burgundy dance outfit and a Team USA headband.
“There is no much thing as too much support,” the dance company’s Facebook page reads. “GO POLINA!”
