Mayor Gavin Newsom said he is getting ready for fatherhood by asking for advice on his Twitter account.
The mayor of San Francisco confirmed on Wednesday that he and his actress wife were expecting their first child after rumors began to fly on the online gossip site Valley Way. On Thursday Newsom told a local television anchor that his wife is due in September.
"It was not the way we wanted it to come out," Newsom said adding that he welcomed "any advice on diapers, any advice on feeding times (and) any advice on names."
“We are pleased to confirm that Mayor Gavin Newsom and First Lady Jennifer Siebel Newsom are starting a family. The Mayor and the First Lady are thrilled to be embarking on this adventure together, and they appreciate your good wishes,” Nathan Ballard, the mayor's communications director said in a statement.
Valley Wag was the first to report the news saying that the mayor's friends had leaked the information. The gossip rag reported that Jennifer Siebel-Newsom was not happy about the news leaking out.
Newsom and Siebel were married last year at her family's ranch in Montana. The event was a star studded gala with the likes of Sen. Dianne Feinstein and the founders of Google (who by the way flew friends and family to the wedding in their private jet).
The news comes as Newsom is making his bid to move his desk from San Francisco to Sacramento. But the mayor faces tough competition In the Democratic primary, he faces California Attorney General and former governor Jerry Brown as well as a possible push from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa.
The controversial mayor is gunning for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's job despite taking hits for his stance on gay marriage and his highly public affair with the wife of his campaign manager.
