Hundreds attended the sixth Annual Gang Prevention Summit in San Jose Saturday, sponsored by Mayor Chuck Reed's Gang Prevention Task Force, according to a spokesman for the mayor.
Reed joined other San Jose and Santa Clara County officials for the five-and-a-half-hour event, which was open to the public and included workshops and a resource fair, Reed policy adviser David Low said.
Others expected to attend were county Supervisor Cindy Chavez, San Jose Vice Mayor Madison Nguyen, San Jose Councilwoman Rose Herrera, San Jose police Chief Larry Esquivel and Mark Bueller of the district attorney's office, Low said.
Members of the mayor's gang task force were also scheduled to be there, Low said.
The workshops, meant to inform city residents about gang activity and prevention, included "Gang 102 and a Way Out," "Faith Initiative," "San Jose Police Department Safety Strategies" and "Parent Engagement and Resources," according to Low.
The summit ran from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant High School, located at 1750 White Road in San Jose.
