A Six Flags Discovery Kingdom walrus who starred in popular movies passed away on Sunday.
Sivuqaq was taken in by the park in 1994 with three other orphaned walrus calves. All four made their debut together in spring of 1995 at the Walrus Experience.
“Words cannot describe the loss we feel,” said Dianne Cameron, marine mammal manager. “We are grateful to have shared his life with him. He touched many people and was loved enormously.”
Sivuqaq also appeared in the 2004 feature film “50 First Dates” as “Jocko” the walrus.
He was also the voice for various creature characters in “Lord of the Rings”, “The Hobbit” and “Jurassic Park."
The park reports that “Sivuqaq demonstrated an intelligence that scientists could not have known about walruses, and hence, he contributed greatly to scientific study of Pacific walruses, one of the least-known and least-studied marine mammals in the world.”
At 21, the male Pacific walrus died from heart failure.
