Stephen Curry is the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, CSNBayArea.com confirmed through multiple league sources Monday morning.
Unlike last season, when Curry was a co-favorite, he was fully expected to win the award after leading the Warriors to the best single season in NBA history while also posting one of the greatest statistical seasons.
Curry led the league in scoring (30.1 points per game) while also shattering his own record for 3-pointers in season, with 402. The seventh-year point guard became the third player ever to join the 50-45-90 club, shooting 50.4 percent from the field, 45.4 percent from beyond the arc and 90.8 percent from the free throw line.
Curry also became the first player to average at least 30 points per game while playing an average of fewer than 35 minutes.
Curry, 28, is the third point guard to win the honor more than once, joining Magic Johnson and Steve Nash.
With Curry being the heavy favorite to win the award, the only real drama will come with the voting results. No one has ever been a unanimous selection, and there is some sentiment that Curry is deserving of such status.
The official announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.
