The South San Francisco Police Department is warning the public about a scam in which subjects pretending to be IRS agents contact victims and demand money.
Police said the scammers tell the victims they owe large amounts of money in back taxes and they will be arrested if the money is not paid.
Police said a recent victim fell for the scam and sent $800 on a pre-loaded debit card to a scammer.
Police are asking anyone who may have been a victim of this scam to call the police department at (650) 877-8900.
