The Internet was dealt a major blow Thursday: Kim Kardashian couldn't tweet. And a bug was to blame.
The San Francisco-based startup had several unexpected outages Thursday that started around 9 a.m.
The initial outage was not long enough to cause an appearance of the infamous "Fail Whale." The company blamed a "cascading bug" for the initial outage that lasted about an hour before engineers repaired the problem.
"Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter," the company wrote on its Tumblr blog at around 9:40 a.m. "Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue."
After starting back up after 10 a.m., the service went back down before 11 a.m. Twitter said the bug may have traveled to infect other parts of the system.
During its early days, Twitter became notorious for outages. A problem co-founder Jack Dorsey said prevented the company from growing as quick as it should have and limited its ability to build a better product.
