Fremont Appoints Former Mayor Gus Morrison as New Mayor

Morrison will replace the late Bob Wasserman.

Former Fremont Mayor Gus Morrison was sworn into office Tuesday morning, filling the vacancy left after the late Mayor Bob Wasserman's passed away last month.

The city council appointed Morrison the new mayor at a special meeting Monday night. He will serve as mayor until the certification of the Nov. 6 election results, city officials said.

Morrison was mayor for 14 years, from 1985 to 1989 and from 1994 to 2004, and served on the city council for more than a decade.

Since he left office in 2004, Morrison has acted as a political consultant and as a consultant on council development and staff relationships in local governments, according to the city's website.

Wasserman died on Dec. 29 at the age of 77.
