SAN FRANCISCO — After the final game of a one-win road trip, the Giants talked of the importance of getting home and getting into a routine. The first series back at AT&T Park didn’t turn the tide at all.
The anemic lineup wasted eight strong innings and a late base hit from Madison Bumgarner. The Giants lost to the Reds 2-1, dropping the three-game series. They are 2-9 in the second half.
Bumgarner went nine up, nine down, just as in his last start at AT&T Park. He looked headed for another shutout and Conor Gillaspie put a run across with a solo homer in the third. Joey Votto broke up the no-hitter with an infield single in the fourth, and Brandon Phillips lined a clean one in the fifth. That was followed by Angel Pagan’s error in deep left, putting runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly from Tucker Barnhart tied the game.
Red-hot outfielder Jay Bruce ambushed Bumgarner in the seventh, hitting a first-pitch fastball that went deep into the arcade section. Bruce tied the Reds’ franchise record with a homer in his fifth straight game.
Starting pitching report: Bumgarner gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) in eight innings, striking out nine and walking none. His past three starts at AT&T Park: 23 innings, 10 hits, one earned run, three walks, 29 strikeouts.
Bullpen report: Hunter Strickland entered with a runner on in the ninth and struck out a pair on fastballs at 96 and 97 mph.

In the field: Mac Williamson has made the Superman catch a couple of times at AT&T Park. In the fifth inning he opted to go feet-first, robbing former teammate Adam Duvall of a bloop single with a sliding catch in shallow right.
Attendance: The Giants announced a crowd of 42,079 human beings who kept asking, "Dan Straily? Really?"
