The murky-gendered track star from South Africa who won the world 800-meters championship before questions arose about her eligibility has been cleared to compete as a woman.
Caster Semenya, 19, who has not raced since blowing away the field at last August's World Championships in Berlin, could compete again this month at the Canadian World Junior Championships, after the ruling by the International Association of Athletics Federations.
Semenya's coach, Michael Seme, said she has not been training at 100 per cent due to the uncertainty over her future, and she is believed to have been undergoing medical treatment for an inter-sex condition, according to the UK Telegraph.
Gender tests conducted after her performance last year reportedly revealed both male and female characteristics, and the treatment for such a condition could involve surgery, hormones or both. The fact that she has been cleared suggests the treatment has resolved questions about her gender.
