Coming soon: a way to report crime and safety hazards using your smartphone.
The BART app is nearly here.
In a "few months," BART riders with smartphones will be able to download a GPS-enabled app that will allow them to upload photos of suspicious people, criminals and other hazards that detract from the quality of a ride, according to the agency.
Riders have been asking for this service for some time, according to BART.
The key is that the app is "safe" and "silent": passengers won't reveal themselves as tipsters.
The ELERTS Corporation, which will develop the app, has done similar work for other transit agencies around the country.
