If you’re suffering from less bars in more places, AT&T may have a solution coming soon. According to Zacks Equity Research, the second largest US wireless carrier is close to unveiling the nation’s first 3G femtocell.
Femtocell is a mini cell tower in a box about the size of a small laptop. It connects to a cell provider using your broadband internet and boosts your phone’s bars while indoors.
AT&T says the technology will provide low-cost, unlimited in-home voice calling and lower monthly phone bills. The device supports up to 10 cell phones at once.
The company has been running trials of the system in several test markets. A nationwide rollout is expected by the end of 2009.
