It's a page from science fiction that has found its way to Silicon Valley: a tech startup that can make any tech reporter look like Tom Cruise in “Minority Report.”
Sort of.
In the 2002 film based on the Philip K. Dick short story, you might recall Tom Cruise’s character moving things around on a giant wall in front of him. Tuesday, we visited the San Carlos headquarters of Bluescape, a software and hardware company whose software lets users touch, move and share content, ideas and the web on their devices.
The idea is cool, but it’s the hardware – that giant wall of touchscreens – that’s getting the most attention.
“What if you could just write on a wall? Well, you can, that's the cool thing,” Bluescape’s Charlie Janes said. “It's gonna be persistent. It’s gonna be built in to everywhere you look in the office space over time will have this type of technology.”
One reason Bluescape is getting noticed is because collaboration is big in the tech world these days. And partly, they admit, another reason is because it looks a bit like science fiction.
Local
And, yes, they hear about “Minority Report” a lot.
"That's exciting, a compliment,” Janes said. “But that science fiction is really here today.”
Bluescape says it plans to sell the software to companies. It starts at about $10 a month to buy in.
The giant wall starts at $10,000.
