Bob Lee murder case: Nima Momeni trial resumes with sister's testimony

NBC Universal, Inc.

The murder trial of Nima Momeni, charged with killing Cash App founder Bob Lee, continued Monday with Momeni's sister resuming her testimony.

Khazar Momeni's testimony started shortly before 10 a.m. with direct examination from prosecutors, who first focused on a series of texts exchanged between Nima and Khazar.

One specific text submitted read, “no ill call the cops too since you called them too."

Prosecutors reviewed previous testimony from Khazar describing that she was devastated by Lee’s death and that she might never smile again.

Questions continued on the days leading up to April 4, 2023, the day Lee was killed.

Khazar's testimony is critical to both prosecutors and defense attorneys. She is a witness for the prosecution at this point, but what she says can be damaging for the case that either side wants to make, legal analyst Steven Clark says.

"While her testimony on direct with the prosecution has been murky and she frequently states 'I don’t remember' or 'I was under the influence,' it will be interesting to see if her testimony becomes clearer when the defense starts questioning," Clark said.

This story will be updated following the conclusion of Monday's testimony. Stay tuned for updates.
