What to Know
- An alleged Iranian plot to kill Trump led the Secret Service to increase security around him in recent weeks
- President Joe Biden hit the campaign trail on Tuesday, speaking at the NAACP convention in Las Vegas and an economic forum
- Former Trump rivals Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley took the convention stage Tuesday night to give him their strong endorsements
The Republican National Convention held its second day of events Tuesday — with Donald Trump now the party's official presidential nominee and JD Vance as his running mate.
The convention in Milwaukee is underway in the shadows of an assassination attempt on Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania in which a rallygoer was killed and two critically injured. The former president was also injured in the attack.
Among those who spoke Tuesday night were former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Trump opponents who now want to return him to the White House. Other speakers, including GOP candidates from around the country, focused on immigration and crime.
