Cheryl Hurd is an NBC Bay Area reporter, and you can find her reports on the stations 11 p.m. newscast.
She has been with the station for a 20 years.
Cheryl was born and raised in Vallejo, California. She graduated from California State East Bay.
"Reporting is a lot of fun, but it is definitely challenging," Hurd said. "I started out in the late 70's, believe it or not. Back then we had two person crews and film! Now your cameraperson shoots, edits, runs the live truck and sometimes reports the news. I write for television, the web and very active on social media. I don't work the camera, but that may be coming soon."
Cheryl has been honored with an award from the Bay Area Black Journalist Association and four Emmy awards presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences San Francisco.
Cheryl loves covering breaking news. She was the first to report about the BALCO steroid scandal that rocked the sports world. She often travels to breaking news all over the country and most recently she’s been covering devastating wildfires that have been sweeping California. And don’t forget the earthquakes.
Cheryl is one of the founding members of Friends of Faith, a non-profit organization that raises money for women diagnosed with breast cancer in the East Bay.
Cheryl is married and has one sister. No children, one dog Stripe. Most of her family lives in the Bay Area; therefore her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
