Deadly LA County fires burn thousands of structures with red flag warning in effect

What to Know

  • At least 10 people have died in the fires, and officials say they expect that number to rise as investigators comb through devastated areas.
  • A state of emergency remains in effect for Los Angeles city and county Friday as five destructive fires continue to burn through the area.
  • A red flag warning was extended to Friday as Santa Ana winds continue to fan flames.
  • All LAUSD schools are canceled for Fridaywith unhealthy air quality impacting areas that are not directly impacted by the fires. Other private schools and other districts are also closed, and parents are encouraged to check directly with their campus to up to date information.
  • The largest fire is the Palisades Fire burning in Pacific Palisades, where hundreds of structures were destroyed.
  • On Thursday, water-dropping helicopters attacked a fire that forced evacuations in West Hills near the 101 Freeway.
