Authorities arrest a 21-year-old woman in connection with the death

A 21-year-old San Francisco State University student was struck and killed by a driver in Redondo Beach late Saturday, and police arrested the suspected driver in connection with the collision, authorities said Monday.

The victim was identified by family as Angelina Pinedo of Rosemead. Pinedo was a student at SFSU, her family said Sunday.

On Monday, Leila Gonzalez, 21, of Bell, was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in connection with the death, police said.

The crash occurred at 9:05 p.m. Saturday on the 1500 block of Aviation Boulevard at the intersection of Grant Avenue, according to Lt. Shawn Freeman of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Pinedo was crossing from the west sidewalk on Aviation at Grant when she was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Aviation Boulevard. Instead of stopping, the motorist continued driving south on Aviation, Freeman said.

Pinedo died from her injuries, but it was unclear whether she was pronounced dead at the scene or elsewhere.

Gonzalez allegedly was driving the suspect vehicle, a black Audi Q5 SUV with the partial license plate 7MB and damage to the front windshield and hood.
