49ers' New Levi's Stadium 80 Percent Complete: Report

49ers' new home in Santa Clara nearing completion.

Santa Clara is almost ready for some football.

The San Francisco 49ers' new home in the South Bay -- the billion-dollar Levi's Stadium -- is 80 percent complete, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

As for the exact nature of the progress? Here's the newspaper's Cam Inman: "Most of the heavy lifting appears done, and now it's as if they're putting lipstick on, well, a newly discovered supermodel."

Sounds pretty!

The stadium will in fact "open" before the home opener. The San Jose Earthquakes will play archival Seattle on Aug. 2 before a pair of 49ers' exhibition games in August.

Between now and then, grass grown near Colin Kaepernick's childhood home in Turlock will be trucked to the stadium, the remaining 40 percent of the seats will be installed, and 3,000 television monitors will be set up, the newspaper reported.

Also, extra parking is being secured at a nearby city-run golf course and soccer complex, the newspaper reported.

Ribbon-cutting is tentatively scheduled for July.

The team posted a current picture of the inside of the stadium on its Instagram feed Wednesday:
