A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck near Piedmont early Wednesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The temblor, which hit at 4:42 a.m. and was initially classified as a 3.7 magnitude quake, was centered 1.9 miles north of Piedmont, 2.5 miles east-southeast of Berkeley and 3.2 miles east-northeast of Emeryville, the USGS reported.
People reported feeling the earthquake in cities such as Hayward, Walnut Creek, Berkeley, San Francisco, Redwood City and San Jose.
At least two nearby aftershocks — magnitudes 2.05 and 1.91 — struck minutes after the 3.4 magnitude temblor.
