Fire crews were battling a three-alarm fire at two homes in East San Jose late Monday, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
The fire was burning at 1536 Cathay Drive, near where Highway 101 and Intestate 680 intersect. The flames spread to a second adjacent home in the neighborhood between Story Road and Ocala Avenue and near Clyde L. Fischer Middle School.
No injuries were reported, but 18 people were displaced from the two homes affected by the flames, fire officials said.
A third alarm was called as a precaution because of propane tanks and live wires that were down in the area, fire officials said.
No further details were immediately available.
