Two "rapidly expanding" fires on each side of state Highway 24 in Lafayette prompted evacuations Sunday, according to a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman.
"They both just came in and they are spreading fairly quickly," the spokesman said.
The Lafayette Tennis Club was destroyed in one of the blazes, fire officials said.
Officials ordered evacuations near Camino Diablo and Springbrook Road in Lafayette. South of Old Tunnel Road was also ordered to evacuate. Police say evacuees can head to the Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area.
Firefighters lifted evacuations around 4:40 p.m. for residents living south of Hwy. 24.
The blaze has burned at least 7 acres and officials report three homes were involved. Forward progress of the fires were reportedly stopped around 3 p.m. The first is currently 40% contained, officials say.
Calls came in around the same time Sunday afternoon for a fire near Highway 24 at Pleasant Hill Road at Condit Road and a fire on the north side of Highway 24 at Camino Diablo, the spokesman said.
There are reports of downed power lines at both locations. In addition, a downed tree is restricting vehicle access at Pleasant Hill Road and Condit.
The district said Lafayette police are evacuating houses on Stow Lane.
