A 22-year-old man died after he apparently fell from the bluffs at New Brighton State Beach in Capitola, police said Wednesday.
Ricardo Picco of Santa Cruz and his two friends were hanging out at the bluffs above the beach late Monday evening when he "unexpectedly walked away," police said. His body was recovered from the beach the following morning.
Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe that Picco "accidentally fell from the bluff to the surface below."
Officials will perform an autopsy to determine Picco's cause of death.
An investigation is ongoing.
