Motorcyclist Killed in Concord Hit and Run

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in which one motorist fled the scene near Concord Boulevard and Lodato Way early Sunday morning, police said.

Police say the motorcyclist, whose identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin, tried to pass a Toyota Prius on eastbound Concord Boulevard and collided with the car about 12:24 a.m. The rider was ejected and landed in the westbound lane of the street, where he was run over by a dark-colored pickup truck.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are trying to identify and locate the pickup truck driver who left the scene. The Prius driver stopped and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The accident caused Concord Boulevard between Ayers Road and Kirker Pass Road to be closed for about three hours.

Jeff Rodgers said he just looked out his front yard and saw the motorcycle then called 911. He says he and and other neighbors then ran out, using flashlights to help slow traffic.

That's when he says a truck drove over the motorcyclist then kept going.

"I just feel bad for the guy," Rodgers said. "He was in the middle of the road and to get run over again, that's tough."

A large white cross now sits on Concord Boulevard near where the motorcyclist was killed. Friends of the victim left it late Sunday night, as they mourn the 28-year-old man they say was like family.

Anyone who many have witnessed the collision or have information about the case is asked to contact police at (025) 671-5880.
