Repair work on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge has been postponed due to ongoing rain, Caltrans announced Tuesday.
The agency is replacing 31 sliding plate joints on the upper deck of the bridge after at least one of the joints failed last month, sending chunks of concrete falling down on passing vehicles.
The joint replacement work is being done as part of a $20 million fund that had been set aside for targeted maintenance on the aging span, now more than six decades old.
Repairs will resume in the near future, once a period of extended dry weather is forecast, Caltrans said.
