A 52-year-old man was arrested Thursday for spray-painting a crosswalk in the roadway of a busy intersection in Vallejo, according to police
Police said Anthony Cardenas, a Vallejo resident, was seen committing the alleged graffiti on Sonoma Boulevard at Illinois Street at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
He told police the intersection needed a crosswalk.
The crosswalk Cardenas painted is not your typical double-gold line crosswalk. He painted two white lines with a criss-cross pattern.
The busy intersection already had three crosswalks in addition to the one Cardenas applied himself.
The other three were also vandalized with diagonal white lines painted through them, according to a Vallejo-Times Herald report.
The Vallejo Police Department sent a cadet to the intersection to ensure public safety throughout the day Thursday. The cadets were there to tell pedestrians not to use the crosswalk.
Caltrans was able to paint over the graffiti by late Thursday afternoon.
Cardenas was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and booked into the Solano County Jail.
