22-Year-Old Killed in El Sobrante, Suspects Arrested: Police

Sheriff's deputies found the victim of a fatal shooting lying in a driveway in the unincorporated El Sobrante area of Contra Costa County on Wednesday night.

They discovered the 22-year-old man while investigating a report of a shooting in the 4800 block of San Pablo Dam Road at 10:46 p.m. and requested assistance from medical personnel, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's officials said their detectives are interviewing several people about the killing. The victim's name is not yet being released.

Police arrested two suspects in the shooting. Anthony Gaines, 22, and Judy Barkas, 57, were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on murder and conspiracy charges, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives are working to establish the exact motive in the case, but know the individuals are acquainted with each other and appear to have an ongoing dispute, the Sheriff's Office said.
