A man has been detained following a bomb threat at the international terminal of San Francisco International Airport, police said Friday night. Cheryl Hurd reports.
The international terminal at San Francisco International Airport was reopened following a chaotic Friday evening, in which a bomb threat resulted in police officers locating a suspicious package in the area.
It started at approximately 8:15 p.m., when police responded at the airport following the bomb threat. Officers eventually located a suspicious package and immediately evacuated the international terminal. The BART station located at SFO was also shut down.
One man was detained for questioning, according to San Francisco police.
SFPD said just before midnight, their officers completed the searches of several areas in the international terminal that were of concern. They added their EOD unit safely removed several suspicious packages that were in question from the airport, making the terminal safe to resume normal operations.
Police added that there is no arrest to mention, which remains an active investigation at this time.
SFO officials said that AirTrain restarted and BART SFO Station departures will resume at 6:25 a.m. They are asking travelers to be patient and allow extra time as service resumes at the international terminal.
