The San Francisco Medical Examiner confirmed Wednesday that the body found in the Bay was that of a Los Angeles Dodgers fan who fell off a pier following a baseball game last week.
That confirmed what many had assumed: The body is that of 27-year-old Victor Murillo, who fell off Pier 32 the night of June 25 after watching the San Francisco Giants play the Dodgers. Murillo was a corrections officer at the California Medical Center in Vacaville who was living in Woodland near Sacramento for his job. He grew up in Temple City in Los Angeles County, and was a huge Southern California sports fan, friends said.
"He was the life of the party," said friend and fellow corrections officer, Anthony Ornelas. "He always loved to have a good time. He was a good guy."
San Francisco police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said a jogger spotted the body in the water near the foot of Howard Street shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Murillo and his friend were at the pier following a game at AT&T Park in San Francisco after the baseball game . His friend looked away momentarily, and when he looked back, Murillo was no longer on the pier, said U.S. Coast Guard officials, who conducted a fruitless search for him. It is unclear exactly why Murillo fell off.
Last Friday, dozens of Murillo’s friends and family members carried out their own search, distributing flyers and recruiting volunteers with boats to search the water.
