California Halts Student Grants at 10 Heald Colleges

California has suspended Cal Grants payments to 10 Heald College campuses.

The move will affect 4,497 Cal Grant Awarded students in Heald locations in Roseville, Stockton, Modesto, Concord, Fresno, Rancho Cordova, Hayward, Milpitas, Salinas and San Francisco.

The California Student Aid Commission announced Friday about $1 million in payments to Heald College students were halted after the school failed to provide audited financial statement by the December deadline.

The grants of between $2,000 and $11,000 per student, will be suspended at least until the commission revisits the issue at its next meeting, scheduled for Feb. 20.

In June, Gov. Jerry Brown in June signed into law tougher standards for colleges to qualify to receive Cal Grants as the state sought to save an estimated $55 million and address the state's budget deficit.
