At least one person was shot and wounded on Highway 101 near Story Road in San Jose on Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 6:45 p.m. and found one 17-year-old boy suffering from two gunshot wounds, CHP officials said. They don't know if he was the passenger or driver in the vehicle, a black Acura, and they weren't certain how many people were in the car.
The injured teen was transported to Regional Medical Center, but his condition was not known, the CHP said.
"They put him on the stretcher, and that's when I noticed it looked like there was a wound near the hip area," witness Carlos Diaz said.
The CHP had no motive in the shooting. But they said they were searching for a white Dodge Charger carrying two Hispanic males with black bandanas, believing it was the source of the gunfire.
All northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down at Tully Road for hours, and traffic was being diverted onto Interstates 280 and 680. A Sig-alert was issued at about 9:10 p.m., and the CHP asked motorists to use alternate routes around the closure, suggesting northbound Highway 85 to northbound Highway 87 back onto northbound 101.

Lanes were reopened about 11:30 p.m., the CHP said.
Thursday's incident comes a week after a deadly shooting on Interstate 80 in Richmond. The CHP estimates 80 freeway shootings on Bay Area highways since 2015.
