A bicyclist in a hospital with a major head injury after being hit while riding with as many as 100 other cyclists during Friday night's Bike Party in the South Bay.
The CHP says a driver crashed into the cyclist near Reed Avenue and Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara just before midnight. Officers at the scene said between 50-100 other cyclists were riding in the area at the time of the crash.
The ride was part of the published route for Friday night's San Jose Bike Party. The gatherings are often compared to Critical Mass in San Francisco but they bare not related.
San Jose Bike Party stresses the importance of safety on the rides, respect for road rules and communication between riders.
