Driver Rear-Ends Car in Milpitas, Fatally Struck Upon Return: CHP

A man  who rear-ended another car went to check o on the person he hit, and then was fatally struck by another car on the way back to his Prius Sunday night on northbound Interstate Highway 880 in Milpitas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Sgt. Aaron Smallenberg said the man got out of his car just before midnight to check on the car that he rear-ended and when he was going back to his own car, was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of that vehicle stayed at the scene to help, Smallenberger said.

The first report of the collision came in at 11:59 p.m. on northbound I-880 just north of the Montague Expressway, Smallenberger said.

CHP issued a Sig-alert at 12:28 a.m.

Two cars were involved in the fatality, and total of four cars got swept up in the accident.
