A preliminary 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Friday morning in the East Bay near Pittsburg, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, which hit at 8:37 a.m., was centered about 8 miles northeast of Pittsburg in Contra Costa County, the USGS said.
